The process begins with gathering together all the threads of your story, through conversations - either over a series of video calls, or face to face at your home or another quiet location - and the sharing of relevant documents and photographs.
I will develop an outline for your book and a draft chapter. Once the outline and style is agreed, I will write the rest of your book, sharing the manuscript with you at multiple stages for review. This is usually a dynamic, collaborative process, with weekly or by-weekly conversations so that everyone is in tune with the process!
Once the manuscript is complete it will be sent to you. I can assist with pursuing publishers and agents. If self-publishing, it is recommended that you have the manuscript proofread by a third party (I can recommend professional proofreaders).
It's hard to say for sure as the cost of ghostwriting varies depending on the length of the book and the complexities of the topic. Your book is likely to cost between £10,000-15,000, with payment made in three stages.
Please still get in touch with me if you have a story to tell but cannot afford a professional ghost writer. I am committed to telling stories that need to be heard. There may be an option of approaching a publisher together with a proposal.
Breakdown of costs:
£200-£300/ 1,000 words
apx £5,000 for interviews and book outline
£500-£1,000 for synopsis and tailored applications to select publishers or agents
There are lots of ways for a book to be published. If you have a compelling story and are a subject-matter expert, your story may be picked up by a traditional publisher. I can also advise on the many self-publishing options (some of which are free).
It depends on the length of the book, the complexity of the topic matter and both of our availabilities. It could take anything from five months to a year.
It you have a specific deadline for the book, this can be taken into account.
Your name will be on the front of the book.
Although the ghost writer automatically owns the copyright by law, but this can be signed over to you or an agreement made whereby the ghost writer receives a percentage of royalties.
Sharing our own stories in the depth and honesty needed for a good book can be a cathartic and liberating process. It can also be painful at times.
I will listen to your story with gentleness and sensitivity, doing upmost to enable an environment where you feel safe, assured and relaxed. A good story requires a level of vulnerability, but it is also good to note that not everything may need to be shared - some things are just for you - this is something I can help you navigate.
When it comes to writing up your story, names, identities and locations can be changed for anonymity and protection.
